School production was fun! I tried out for *dance* being that it was expected id *get in*. After-all, I choreographed, studied/practiced gymnastics in my spare time. Out of the two productions that were to take place during my 4 years at BYLA, I made it to *song dance*. I was a bit disappointed but being that i can sing on key, it’s understandable why I was wanted in choir. So I did both! Im thankful I get to dance how I want to dance now. 💃
The last movie I watched on my DVD before leaving to the boarding school I worked my a** off to get accepted to is called *Memoirs of a Geisha*. Hands down one of the best films ive ever seen. Truly a cinematic masterpiece. I resonated alot with the protagonist. Alot of similarities in terms of relationship dynamics. Even physically- i get asked ) if I have Asian blood. The answer is yes I do. I recently found out. No im not shocked at all. 😅
My partner is definitely a diamond in the rough. He knows all about the many inpatient stays in the psych unit. He knows about everything i feel I want to discuss with him and he loves me regardless. For the past 20 years purchasing jewelry was difficult for me. Aside from the financial hardship I had endured, placing a necklace around my bare neck was challenging to say the least. I was cognizant about purchasing items that had to be secured *in the back*. Im so thankful he is not only willing to assist me in getting dressed if need be but he genuinely feels as if he is priveleged to do it. Its the little things about being in a healthy loving relationship that keeps me happy. 🥰
My partner and I often incorporate a *pinky promise* into our relationship. He knows just how let down by others I have been in the past so we physically make a vow to retain said oath. I wasn’t allowed to *swear* growing up so it still feels odd to me, even though Im no longer observant. Its funny how the Gd of the old testament made certain promises to the *chosen nation* yet….yea…I think we all get it…
We took some photos here a few weeks before *the big day*. My hometown LA. The *twinkling* lights felt comforting because I was feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the wedding preparations. My partner taught me to express my *needs* because im so used to being reliant on just myself. It feels bizzare to have someone who is passionate about giving me my needs as wells as desires. He told me he would do anything to see me smile. I’m wearing Saint Laurent here.
Being able to practice *agency* 😌 was something that I truly was appreciative of. Growing up in a world where everything was decided for you was a battle. Im thankful I was able to carve my own path and make all sorts of choices in life. This gown was hand-sewn and designed by me 😇. On my wedding day, I felt peaceful and content that I selected the right spouse. I was nervous I would never be able to *move on* after specific relationships. Years later, I can honestly say he was worth the wait.
I wore this gorgeous dress (if I do say so myself) to Synagogue on Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement). I usually wore white every year growing up. I used to frequent the cute little boutique named *Image* on the Melrose strip. My mother patiently waited to see how her *neshama* (soul) looked in the stylish outfits we were so excited about. My mom loved fashion as well. I remember trying on all sorts of her elegant yet flamboyant colored shoes. Anywhere from purple to leopard print. She owned them. In hindsight it makes sense being that she was a long time English teacher at my elementary school as well as having *tailor* blood in her.. Her aunt taught at the school as well. On the day the esteemed, Leoni Flamm passed, was the day I realized the magnitude of who I really was: *Marcus Flamm’s great grandaughter*. I tried to bury it, but every time I walked passed the hallway of my childhood home, and quickly glanced at his portrait, I knew he must have been *really something*. Mrs. Spolsky made a point to announce *the* funeral that *the teachers* would be attending. She knew. And then I knew. But not everyone did. Grandma also knew. She used to keep the VHS of *the little prince* in my mom’s old bedroom. After all- this was her deceased 1st husbands father that im sure she still pondered about from time to time.
Beryl Chiott, my great grandfather from my maternal side (my grandmother’s beloved father) was heavily dedicated to the establishment of the synagogue here- Young Israel of Melrose in Los Angeles. There was a small *shteible* adjacent to it run by *viznitz* chassidim. He sat on the board and would frequent the synagogue on many a Shabbat/Saturday. His beloved wife, Sarah Rivka unfortunately endured psychiatric ailments as well. He loved her ❤️. A great cook, like grandma, she remained orthodox despite her hardships. She *kept the faith* like Joel used to say.
