She’s Sue Storm
the once seemingly downtrodden
the once deemed “damsel in distress”
daring to probe and provoke
questions to chip-engulfed
blinded folk
~~~~~
Her music and madness
headphones and script are her finest form of weaponry
her Artillery
her saving Grace
~~~~~
Bang Bang Bang
shot gun goodbyes
and brief cradle holds
prison locked and shell shocked
oh, but she’s equipped
~~~~~
she prefers to dwell in her own Universe
her own ideal capsulated world of peace and tranquility
because electro-brushed selfies
images of vanity,falsity
and alter personas of imagination and delusion
whilst witnessing a Touch of disturbing illicit frolics,
was and is not much of a thrill
~~~~~
Makeup and making out
was and never will be her imperative pursuits
music induces her deft pattern recognition
the predictability of
walking corpses
~~~~~
Sue Storm
invisible
yet insidious.
hidden yet very much aware
of What is really causing the blows,
the lows
the manipulative tactics of vultures lingering in the deep forests
possessing watchful eyes,
anticipating her next not-ever-existent fall
~~~~~~~~~~~~
She’s nobody’s fool
she keeps her cool
because
She’s Sue Storm
with a Bam Bam Bam
and her pocket full of Shazam.
*inspired by the character ”Sue Storm” in Marvel’s “Fantastic Four”- I found a part of me that can relate to her. “Shazam” is a music app for those of you lovelies who are unfamiliar with the reference :)) don’t ya’ll just weep during shot gun goodbyes ; (?! whether exiting a mustang or beat up Buick -they always sad!!

I do not know of Sue Storm or the Fantastic Four. So perhaps there are parts of your poem that I cannot understand because of that. Sometimes it isn’t a bad thing to dwell in one’s own universe, I don’t think.

thank you!! The music app is something I included in here as well as certain themes stemming from personal life experience- I have a tendency of welding my subconscious into my work 🙂 Shazam is a music app that I use to snag beauties. I’m sure if Sue were walking amongst us- she’d appreciate and take advantage of that magical app :)) I don’t just love music..I depend on it as well hence my newfound appreciation for Sue. She rocks 😉 (no pun intended) Music, to me, is a remedy, reliable, and one of the most constant things in my life- everything Sue explains in regard to music rings absolutely true for me and it was amazing to view those quotes up in the big screen :)) Go get Shazam! Enjoy it!

Very cool. Speaking of music, these read veyr much like lyrics. Do you write music? If not maybe you should.

Thank you 🙂 I do remember helping a friend of mine years ago with a lyric -she’s a singer song writer and we were merely kids just having fun with creating a song about my emerald ring but during my teens I wrote a lot in my diary as well as poetry during class (I think it’s safe to say the poetry gene was inherited from my grandma who was an amazing poet) as for song lyrics in current days -prayer is the closest I come to composing my own lyrics -my car Jake is the only thing on this planet (of course besides the almighty) privy to hearing those words that I enjoy collaborating with all kinds of music- like hebrew pop rock lol -I recently drove from cali to illinios and I must say I’ve had some good times singing my way up here 🙂

This makes me think of Whistler’s daughter in Blade III. Sue Storm always intrigued me – bland first name, killer last name.

I’m sure my kids will be familiar with Sue Storm, but not I, so cannot comment too much. However, I like your poetic portrait of a fearless, feisty and slightly geeky girl. Definitely someone to respect.

thanks! I’m sure they would 🙂 she def. is someone to respect- it’s amazing how the tides turn as we venture out of grade school into the real world were geeks and freaks are more of a value/ asset to society than superficiality- proud geek 🙂 haters make the best motivators- Sue is blessed 🙂

Oh, I like this Sue Storm very much. Music and madness – no damsel in distress is she! I smiled when I read these lines
“her Artillery
her saving Grace”
The poem is well -fantastic- and that is a killer line! Beautifully done, Baronessannie.

Though I don’t know who Sue Storm is, I can envision her from you well developed characterization. I suspect there are many Sue Storms out there who don’t know how to turn their energies into art. One reason we need the arts.

I completely agree- it’s all about channeling energy hence my subtitle for the blog- I think this world would be a better place if more people knew how to channel their energies into projects of art or even calisthenics (which can be art) – anything where any bitterness, frustration or even anger stays within those boundaries. It’s constant work and I think it pays off big time- I personally finished a book project I was working on for a couple of years a few months ago- not only was it cathartic but I have something to shelve while proudly stating to myself ”it’s all about making lemonade from lemons”- I think this one of the most important perspectives one SHOULD have on this extremely confusing life. It also feels comforting to know that others can take interest or even enjoy my work- not everyone was blessed with the knowledge or ability to read between the lines- to read works of literature beneath surface level- I know for this particular poem ”shot guns” to some unfortunate/bitter/shallow souls can look at this poem and think of me as some sort of villian. You fine peeps show them otherwise-so thank you for that 🙂 Sue storm is indeed an anti-hero- and boy can we use more of those in this world- gotta love Humanities 101 🙂
